Kia Ora

So, first post: I’m feeling like I’m under some weird self-inflicted kind of pressure to create a sense of what this blog will entail. Trouble is, I’m not all too sure what that is yet. Nor am I certain on what exactly it was that motivated me to create it. Perhaps inherent narcissism is one factor, but more probable is the all-too-familiar notion among writers and creative folk to find an outlet for ‘self expression.’ Indeed, the idea of categorizing myself into that cliche makes me uneasy, and physically typing those words onto a public medium such as a blog does spear viciously into my sense of pride. But come at me, world, for it’s true: the thing is to love life, to love it even when you have no stomach for it and everything you’ve held dear crumbles like burnt paper in your hands, your throat filled with the silt of it. That’s the essence of this whole blogging business for me: as close a representation of my life and loves as life will allow.

To begin, nothing more and nothing less than a list of words – perhaps the only way to convey theme.

Aotearoa – at the top of my list for some reason, although I tell myself constantly to steer well clear of nationalism. Documentary Film, my thing as of right now. Objectivity is not needed here, contrary to popular belief. It allows pure expression and circulation of passionate opinion. Poetry, words and language in general, my somewhat hidden indulgence (itellicised.) The Ocean, endlessly providing me with energy and rapture in the world. Her waves, always unfolding, always inviting, holding us close to her, like a Mother should. Our Mother, our ocean, loved by so many; no wonder the sun gets so jealous.
